Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health

Pine Rest

Controls Built for Care

The Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health was designed to address the growing need for pediatric mental health services while providing a safe, supportive, and healing environment for patients, families, and staff. To support the facility’s complex operational requirements, Pine Rest required a building automation system capable of integrating a wide range of HVAC, hydronic, life safety, power monitoring, and critical equipment systems into a single, reliable platform. Because healthcare facilities operate around the clock, system reliability and continuous monitoring were essential components of the project.

Grand Valley Automation developed and implemented a comprehensive controls solution that integrated the facility’s mechanical systems, heating plants, domestic hot water systems, emergency power infrastructure, and critical monitoring points. The project included controls for hundreds of terminal units, integration of rooftop units and split systems, temperature monitoring for medication-related refrigeration equipment, life safety damper monitoring, and integration of emergency power systems. To further enhance reliability, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) were incorporated for major critical control equipment, helping maintain system operation during power interruptions.

The completed building automation system provides Pine Rest with centralized visibility and control over critical facility systems while supporting patient comfort, operational efficiency, and life safety requirements. By integrating HVAC systems, power monitoring, emergency systems, and environmental monitoring into a single platform, GVA delivered a solution that supports the facility’s mission of providing high-quality behavioral health care in a safe and dependable environment for children, adolescents, and their families.
